Yogurt/Curd Curry with Cucumber – Kerala style/Pachadi

It is a light and refreshing curry, best had with steamed rice. It is an ideal curry on hot and humid summer months. This is a recipe inspired from the ‘pachadi’ a dish from the beautiful land of Kerala, where it is an inevitable part of a vegetarian lunch.


For the gravy:
Shredded Coconut – 1 cup;
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp;
Cumin seeds/Jeera – 1 tsp;
Green chilli – 1 no.;
Curry leaves – 4-5 no.;
Garlic – 1 clove;
Plain yogurt/curd – 1 cup;
Salt – 1 tsp.

For the tempering/Tadka:
Cooking oil
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp;
Curry leaves – 4-5 no.;
Green chilli – 1 no.;
Dry Red chilli – 1 no.;
Fenugreek seeds/Methi – 1/4 tsp.


Water – 1/2 cup;
Cucumber – chopped, 1/2 cup;
Salt to taste.
